I don’t mind the current St Mirren crest, but I think it’s a bit too jumbled. We’ve got this busy City of Paisley coat of arms (with an intrusive and thick border) in the middle with a clunky typeface. The black and white stripes for which the Saints are known have replaced the castle mantle from the official coat of arms, which doesn’t look very aesthetically coherent. I decided to draw inspiration from the brilliant 1981 ‘SMFC’ crest and add a little bit of class, in my humble opinion.
In my redesign the Paisley coat of arms is small and simple, yet still striking since it is the only colour in the redesigned crest. I chose a more elegant, classic typeface, emphasising both St Mirren and Paisley’s long history.
